Misled Pencil Thru Bill

This small, innocent prop will take up barely any space in your pocket, but a far greater space in your spectator's memory.

David Copperfield first performed this effect on his television show decades ago and now you can do it too. The Misled Pencil Thru Bill gimmick was created by FISM award winner Timothy Wenk and it works like clock! You borrow a banknote from a spectator and use a regular pencil which in some cases can even be borrowed. You fold the bill in half and without hesitation, plunge the pencil through the centre. This always gets a shocking reaction from the spectator but before they panic too much, you pull the pencil sharply along and off the banknote, seemingly destroying it even more. The viewer really hears and sees the pencil tear through the paper! But as you show the banknote to the audience, it is seen to be completely intact. And that's only the first phase!

In the second phase, you fold the bill at an angle (think Blind Man's Bill Change) and place the pencil in between the fold. You then take hold of the end of the pencil and slowly melt it through the banknote; it looks like real magic. And the best bit is that both objects can then be handed to your audience.
