Erdnase Bible
The Expert at the Card Table: The Classic Treatise on Card Manipulation is topping the list of most praised books, dedicated to card tricks, manipulations and cardsharp techniques. The first edition of 'The Expert at the Card Table' was published in 1902, but the book hasn't lost any of its relevance to this day, as the majority of described techniques are omnipresent. The author's identity still remains a mystery - no one has managed to find out who was hiding behind S. W. Erdnase pseudonym.
Canadian magician and Magic Castle frequenter Dai Vernon has arguably popularized this book more than others did. When discussing card tricks and sleight-of-hand techniques, he loved to quote 'Expert' with a reference to specific pages. Allan Ackerman, R. Paul Wilson, Jason England, Guy Hollingworth and many other modern cardicians often mention this book in their tutorial videos. A beginner can find here a witty description of numerous false shuffles, palming techniques, shifts, colour changes and card forces as well as tricks and routines.
