We'd like to think we became friends with Volodymyr Waone Manzhos in 2009. We filmed our first cardistry video for a theory11 contest in front of one of the Interesni Kazki's murals, and shortly thereafter their FB page started following us. That was a time when only a few American companies, David Blaine and the Buck Twins would release custom decks of cards. Later on brands like Fontaine & Dealers Grip would appear, and cardists across the globe would hype their favourite creators' decks to a collectible status. Collabs between cardists and fine arts aficionados are not new. We started working on a signature deck of cards together with WAONE in 2020, and despite all obstacles and thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who protect us from terrorists, managed to finalise a Kickstarter campaign in 2023.

One of the most recognised Ukrainian muralists, Waone, started out in early 2000s, polished his unique surrealist style throughout the years and left his mark in dozens of cities across the globe. We were fortunate enough to follow his creative process during the creation of one of the Time for Change murals in Kyiv in 2022, before he had to leave to Paris for a short spell at the Idem studio. The Time for Change: III aka Victory mural is very symbolic, since it was inspired by the resistance of Ukrainian nation against occupiers. Naturally, we incorporated the artwork into the upcoming Strange Curiosities deck of cards, a collab between December Boys & Waone.

Almost each face card features one of Waone's signature character or element. You'd be able to spot some early works of Waone here as well as some fresh art dated as late as 2023. Traditionally, our partners at Art of Play will help us produce an exquisite deck of cards using this 1-of-a-kind design, should the Kickstarter campaign become a success.
