Eco-friendly Card Clip. First December Boys product

Wooden products were around since the Paleolithic era. People started wood manufacturing 300 years B.C. As humanity evolved, the perspectives on possibilities of utilizing wood have changed dramatically. Modern trends dictate its rules.

Shwood - a fresh take on an ordinary accessory

A luxurious automotive brands try to beat each other in the race for the illest interior design, bragging with the use of the rarest types of wood. A bamboo case for smartphones doesn't amuse anyone, yet is still considered as a unique and original accessory. Shwood sunglasses prove the statement that sky is the limit for imagination. Sophisticated manufacturing, high-end quality, handicraft contribute to the ultimate recipe for a successful sold-out product.

Card clips are being produced from metal and plastic. But not from wood. To this day.

From anodized aluminium to Carpathian alder

We always highly regarded Joe Porper's work. A video about the production process of his legendary card clips, gimmicks and accessories has sparked our desire to create a December Boys workshop in Ukraine. Many people would immediately abandon this idea at its project stage: the lack of necessary materials for creating original accessories, inability to establish a stable manufacturing process, absence of high demand for such a niche product may all be discouraging. We, however, were lucky enough to meet a decent craftsman and started believing that this idea could be brought to life despite all the pessimistic predictions.

DB CARD CLIP v.1 family

Eduard Boronin is the creator of these handicrafts. All design and nuances of the DB CARD CLIP v.1 were subject of intense discussion for an entire month. The result exceeded all our expectations. The artisan wood carving is a pure art on its own, as each card clip is made from a wholesome piece of wood. No glue or any inserted pieces. Outstanding hand work only.

How is it made?

One of the following three types of wood is used for the DB CARD CLIP: Carpathian alder, maple or linden. Before commencing the work with wood, the craftsman soaks it with organic oils to reach the desired plasticity. It is required for precise carving, which could be seen throughout the product. What happens next is a mystery, or to be exact, magic. From a solid log, cut into several planks, Eduard carves symmetrical, elegant and at the same time sturdy holders. The finalized product then gets treated with wax, organic oil or varnish to top if off. An entire day goes into production of one single card clip!

When inserted, the deck is tightly held on the sides, however due to the nature of the wood, the box can be effortlessly removed from the card clip. Albeit sharing the same standards in terms of weight (53 grams) and dimensions (9cmх7cmх2.2cm), the holders' shade of wood shall vary. Make no mistake, what you hold in your hands is a truly one-of-a-kind product.
